- Also known as “JCAA”
-
The 56-unit affordable senior housing development is located at the heart of the “Gayborhood” section of Philadelphia’s historic Washington Square West neighborhood
- The area is the traditional center of LGBT life in the Philadelphia region
-
Driving force for this project came from an appreciation within Philadelphia’s LGBT community of the great courage shown by its current generation of elders during the early struggles for gay rights
- It’s recognized that there are still challenges in facing safe, affordable and accepting accommodations in which to live
- Serves low-income families earning between 30%-60% of Area Median Income
- Activists within the community played a major role in JCAA’s development
- The first “LGBT-friendly” affordable senior housing project to be developed in the eastern United States with such direct community involvement
